Virtual Telephony

1 business number + 1 call manager + multiple devices = Virtual Telephony

If you’re a small business and regularly on the move – working from home, visiting clients and/or suppliers, travelling the country – then you don’t want a complicated and expensive telephone system or lots of different contact numbers. What you want is an easy, effective way for your customers, colleagues and suppliers to reach you.

At Silver Lining we give you one business number, just one, and the means to choose which device – desk phone, mobile or computer “soft” phone – you are currently available on depending on where you are working. It’s what we call Virtual Telephony and offers you the ability to maintain business communications, without boundaries.

Take Sam.

Sam runs an small company and tends to be out on the road a lot visiting customers. But Sam also has a desk at the office and has the option to work from home. Sam needs to be easily reachable on the phone but does not want lots of different contact numbers for all his devices which is why Virtual Telephony is perfect for him.

With Virtual Telephony, Sam is issued with a “reach me anywhere” telephone number. Callers use this one number and are connected to Sam by a Call Manager who acts as Sam’s receptionist. For the caller, they have been put through to Sam on his one contact number, regardless of where he is working that day.

But now for the clever bit, the bit the caller doesn’t see.

That morning Sam logged into Virtual Telephony on his smart phone app, but he could have easily done it from his desk or computer “soft” phone, and told the system that he would be available on his mobile phone, as he was travelling to London by train. At this point the Call Manager’s display shows that Sam is available on his mobile phone and any incoming calls are routed there as directed. However, when Sam reaches London and his office he changes his availability to his office desk phone. The Call Manager now sees Sam is in the office and directs calls there.

Travelling back in the afternoon, Sam toggles his availability back to his mobile phone. And the next day? Sam is working from home so plugs in his computer “soft” phone and notifies the system online that he is available from his “home office” phone. All the time customers and suppliers are using the same single contact telephone number to reach Sam.
